Seraphinite is a rare green silicate mineral belonging to the chlorite group, primarily composed of iron, magnesium, and aluminum. It is known for its striking feather-like patterns on the surface, which are created by the way the mineral fibers reflect light. These patterns often resemble angel wings, which is how the stone got its name, derived from the word "seraphim" (angelic beings). Seraphinite typically appears in deep green hues, with metallic silver or white streaks. It has a Mohs hardness of 2.5 to 4, making it relatively soft and best suited for decorative pieces or ornamental use. Major sources of seraphinite include Russia, particularly in the Lake Baikal region.
