Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz known for its striking color, which ranges from pale lavender to deep violet. It forms in geodes and volcanic rock cavities, gaining its color from iron impurities and natural radiation exposure. With a Mohs hardness of 7, amethyst is durable enough for jewelry and decorative items. It is primarily sourced from Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and Zambia, where high-quality crystals are mined.
