Galena is a lead sulfide mineral and the primary ore of lead, known for its metallic luster and perfect cubic cleavage. With a high density and bright silver-gray appearance, it often forms alongside minerals like quartz, sphalerite, and pyrite. Although relatively soft (Mohs hardness of 2.5), galena is highly valued by collectors for its well-defined crystal structures. Major sources include the United States, Mexico, Peru, Australia, and Bulgaria, where it occurs in hydrothermal veins and sedimentary deposits.
