Pink tourmaline is a variety of the tourmaline mineral group, composed of complex boron silicate with aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Its pink color is primarily due to manganese. Pink tourmaline has a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7.5, making it durable for jewelry. It is found in Brazil, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, and the United States (California and Maine). This gemstone ranges in hue from pale pink to deep reddish-pink and is often cut into faceted gems or cabochons for ornamental use.
