Green tourmaline, also known as verdelite, is a variety of the tourmaline mineral group, a complex boron silicate with varying amounts of iron, chromium, or vanadium, which give it its green color. It has a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7.5, making it durable for jewelry. Green tourmaline is found in Brazil, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, and the United States (California and Maine). Its color ranges from pale green to deep emerald green, with some stones displaying exceptional clarity and brilliance when faceted.
