Sodalite

Sodalite is a tectosilicate mineral composed of sodium aluminum silicate with chlorine (Na₈(Al₆Si₆O₂₄)Cl₂). It is best known for its deep blue color, often with white streaks or veins of calcite, though it can also appear in shades of gray, green, yellow, or pink. Sodalite has a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6, making it moderately durable but softer than quartz. It is primarily found in igneous rocks, particularly in nepheline syenites. Major sources include Canada, Brazil, Greenland, Russia, and Namibia. Sodalite is commonly used for jewelry, carvings, and decorative objects.
