Desert Rose is a variety of selenite that forms in sandstone or gypsum-rich environments. It is composed of gypsum crystals that have crystallized into rosette-like structures, resembling the petals of a rose, with a color range from white to beige or brown. Desert Rose is typically found in arid regions where evaporation causes the formation of these unique structures. It has a Mohs hardness of 2 to 3, making it relatively soft and more suitable for decorative uses such as ornamental pieces and small sculptures. Major sources include Morocco, Mexico, and parts of the United States.
