Blue Kyanite | Rough | Small

  • $3.00

Blue kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral (Al₂SiO₅) known for its striking blue color and unique bladed crystal formations. It is commonly found in metamorphic rocks, particularly in high-pressure environments such as schists and gneisses. One of its distinguishing properties is its anisotropic hardness—it has a Mohs hardness of 4.5 to 5 parallel to the crystal length and 6.5 to 7 across the crystal width. Major sources of blue kyanite include Brazil, Nepal, India, and the United States. It is valued for industrial applications due to its heat resistance and is also widely used as a gemstone.
