Moldavite is a rare green tektite, a natural glass formed from the impact of a meteorite in what is now the Czech Republic around 15 million years ago. Composed primarily of silica (SiO₂) with aluminum and other trace elements, it has a Mohs hardness of 5.5-7, making it more fragile than typical gemstones. Moldavite is known for its distinct wrinkled or etched surface in raw form and is often faceted or polished for jewelry. Due to its limited geographic origin, high-quality specimens are highly sought after by collectors. Its unique formation process and deep green color set it apart from other natural glasses.
